ADVITA Koshalika : Pure Kosa Silk Saree
Koshalika takes its name from Kosala — the ancient kingdom that once encompassed the heartland of Chhattisgarh, a land whose silk-weaving traditions are among the oldest in India. ADVITA Koshalika is a Pure Kosa Silk saree that embodies this golden legacy, handwoven by artisans who have inherited their craft through generations of unbroken practice.
The Kosa Silk Weaving Process
Kosa silk begins in the forests. Wild silkworms of the Antheraea mylitta species spin their cocoons on Arjun and Saja trees in Chhattisgarh's jungles. These cocoons are gathered by hand — a process that is itself a form of forest stewardship, as the weavers' communities have long understood that protecting the forest means protecting their livelihood.
The cocoons are then reeled by hand on traditional charkhas, producing a fibre that is coarser and more textured than cultivated silk — but also stronger, more breathable, and deeply individual. The weaving is done on pit looms, where the weaver sits below the loom level, working the threads with hands and feet in a rhythm that can take years to master. The result is a fabric with a natural lustre, a warm earthy tone, and a drape that improves with every wear.
