ADVITA Tantuja : Ketiya Gheecha
Tantuja — born of the loom. Ketiya Gheecha — drawn from the cocoon.
This saree is a meeting of two ancient disciplines: the weaver’s patience and the silk reeler’s precision. Gheecha silk, also known as raw or waste silk, is spun from broken cocoon filaments — fibres that would otherwise be discarded, transformed instead into a yarn of remarkable character. Ketiya refers to the particular quality of this reeling — coarser, more textured, deeply honest in its imperfection.
The result is a fabric that breathes with personality. Its surface is uneven in the most deliberate way — slubbed, matte, and warm to the touch. It drapes with a quiet authority that polished silks rarely achieve.
Woven under the Tantuja tradition — a legacy of Bengal’s master weavers — this saree carries within its threads a story of craft preserved, not replicated. Every yard is handwoven, every texture earned.
